Carl

Meet Carl. Text reads:

Carl wants to love
but doesn't konw know

the who or what of it all.
He's simply aware of

an unending compassion

and joy bursting from within him,

primarily inspired from sunlight + mossy trees

+ secret handshakes + dreams from the future.

So he plants a seed,

and the seed is his soul,

and he waits for it to grow as big as the whole world.

Collage + ink, in a deep 9"x9" frame.

The Yetican Empire

I've found a curious book detailing the exploits + general awesomeness of the  མི་རྒོད་, or Migoi Empire. A rare breed of yeti, they dominated the mountains of Nepal + Tibet, where they listened to thrash metal, drank moonshine, and high-fived each other. Although their drunken orgies resulted in a thriving population, they were hunted for their distinctive heraldic fur, which became a status symbol for the nobility in other parts of the world.  They eventually brought about their own extinction, primarily through a ritual involving a primitive form of snowboarding, cliffs, and 1080° backflips.

The book contains an actual sample of Royal Migoi fur! A rare find, indeed!

Don't Breathe

Wrapped up a piece that was very convoluted + experimental in it's creation, but turned out nicely (and not at all how I had envisioned!)

Colouring Collective

I'm taking part in a collaborative project, where many different artists create small chunks that form a larger picture. I don't know what it's of, and it's hard to guess from the fuzzy pictures I was assigned.. will be interesting to see when it all gets assembled! I did two boards, a 4"x4" + a 5"x7".

Tyranny

Sure, it sounds like a good deal...
but the entire kingdom was lactose intolerant!

Alternatively + originally, the peasants are sad because the king is always declaring national holidays, which has ruined the economy.

Blah Blah

I took 'Baltic Bandit' - one of my first acrylic experiments - and painted over it, and stamped ink all over it, then layered, and layered, and layered some more. Up close, the ink/oil/gesso combo makes for interesting depth illusions. Here's a visual history:

Blah Blah, mixed media on 12"x12" canvas. For sale.

In all likelihood, I'll end up painting over this in 9 months, much like last time.

Synergist Collaboration

It's done! My collaboration with Mandy Tsung is framed up, ready to travel. Awesome awesome project. Looking forward to the future; possibility of live collaboration on Cypress Mountain during the 2010 Olympics. Very cool!
